Course Description

3 semester hours.  This course is offered for graduate students. Application of molecular genetics to transcription control mechanisms; gene expression, molecular cloning, and applications to biotechnology. back to top

The course webpage is provided for the student's convenience.  However, the intermittent nature of the internet makes it difficult to guarantee that the website will be available 24 hours a day. Procrastinating students can not be guaranteed webpage access at the last minute.  back to top

Important Policies

Add/Drop Policy.  Students can add up until the 4th class day.  Movement into and out of classes after the 4th class day requires approval of the Department Chair. Students can drop until mid-semester without a WP or WF. Drops after mid-semester require approval of the Dean.   You are responsible for your enrollment status with the college.  back to top

Attendance Policy

Regular or punctual attendance is expected but in this class attendance is not taken at any class or laboratory meeting.  You are responsible for obtaining any information distributed during those times.  back to top

Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.  Dishonesty will result in assignment of a failing grade on that exercise or examination. back to top

Handouts

Handouts based on lecture slides will be provided before each lecture. The professor reserves the right to make last minute changes to the  slides.  back to top

Textbook

Students are expected to read the assigned topic from textbook in advance of the each lecture.

Participation

Participation will be graded based on your involvement (questions and/or answers) during your fellow students oral presentations. 

Midterm examination

See the schedule for dates and times. Format will include but is not limited to multiple choice, short answer and essay type questions. Context will include any material covered during lectures and oral presentations. 

Oral Presentations

According to schedule a team of students will present a current paper from a scientific journal on the topic of last three lectures (three lectures will cover one chapter from textbook). The chosen papers need to be approved at least one week prior to the presentation week. The presenters will also be responsible for distributing of copies of the paper one week before the presentation.

Topics

Topics of oral presentations will be based on lecture topics.

Grading

The grade will be based on a 10 to15 minute presentation to the class. Evaluation criteria: grade sheet
